Cough.... Piggott does not even have Nijinsky in his top 3 horse's of all time...
Surprisingly, the three best horses Piggott has seen include only one Derby winner and none that he rode. “Sea-Bird, Ribot and Frankel were the best – in that order,” he said. “I was beaten two lengths by Sea-Bird into second on Meadow Court in 1965 and Pat Glennon, his jockey, said before the race all he was worried about was being able to pull up the horse before the road [by the old parade ring]. In the race, he started pulling up about a furlong and a half out – that’s how good he was. Ribot was exceptional. He was unbeaten and won two Arcs. We all saw what Frankel did.”

Whenever I need cheering up I'll go on YouTube and watching the montage of Rachel Alexandra races in her 3 year old campaign... staggering what she did and the main reason why she romped over Zenyatta in the Horse of the Year...
"Rachel Alexandra decimated the Kentucky Oaks field by an astonishing 20¼ lengths … she became the first filly to win the Preakness Stakes in 85 years … she romped by 19¼ lengths in a record-setting Mother Goose performance … she crushed the Belmont Stakes winner during a tour-de-force effort in the Haskell … and for the cherry on top she delivered a spine-tingling performance that was all heart in winning a historic edition of the Woodward at Saratoga. To say Rachel Alexandra’s accomplishments during her Horse of the Year campaign in 2009 were staggering fails to do justice in describing one of the most impressive single-year ledgers of a filly in American racing history. Simply stated, Rachel Alexandra was otherworldly as a 3-year-old, winning all eight of her starts and dazzling all who saw her along the way".

Nijinsky (21 February 1967 15 April 1992), usually known in the United States as Nijinsky II, was a Canadian-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was the outstanding two-year-old in Europe in 1969 when he was unbeaten in five races. In the following season he became the first horse for thirty-five years to win the English Triple Crown. He is regarded by many experts to have been the greatest flat racehorse in Europe during the 20th century[1]

Sam, also the four defeats came to no more than 4 lengths (2 by a neck, one half a length and 3 and a bit lengths in the guineas). as far as I know he's still breeding now at 20 :.)
he never gave up, unbelievable horse

Had actually forgotten that one that is quite a cv and unbeaten as a 2YO also, but what grabbed my attention was its 4 great grandfathers (so to speak) Northern Dancer, Secretariat, Blushing Groom and Roberto!!! FMOB, there can never have been a horse born with such a bloodline has there? Unreal!

no votes for Zenarinda?
Couple of categories here - too hard to settle on one horse;
Fave classy flat - Giants causeway. his eclipse win over Kalanisi and Sakee was the best race I've been present at.
Fave nag flat - Foley Millenium. Sprinter on the northern circuit - won me plenty for a few years.
fave jumps - Master Minded - or one man. can't split them.

yes grumps, was a true warrior and died on the track. another great I'd go to see every year for his pre cheltenham prep race at Huntingdon was Best Mate. never seen a more chilled out, professional horse. used to walk round the parade ring taking it all in and calm as anything. what a star he was

Over the jumps it would have to be Katchit, won at the festival a couple of times the Triumph and the following year the champion hurdle as a 5 year old always gave its all.
On the flat Sea the Stars was at the Curragh watching one of its early runs, asked the barman for a tip while waiting for a Guinness and was told Sea the Stars it was going to win the derby apparently

*Waves At Tiddington* 12th June 2012 8pm Brighton 9 furlongs, most money I ever made in under 2 minutes, happy days.
I cant believe you said Mtoto I was there when he got touched off by Tony Bin at Longchamps late 80s? not Roberts' greatest ride in truth and that cost me a lot of money but still a great horse, other highlights of that day realising that the guy standing beside me in the gents was in fact the Aga Khan. But Mtoto is quite a coincidence as im pretty certain that was the same year and day 30 odd years ago that Cadeaux Genereux which i mentioned earlier in the thread got disqualified in the prix de labbaye, what a sickener i only found out when i was at the PMU counter to collect my winnings. A dark day all round

Must have already been mentioned, but what was the name of the horse that I think was a flat 2 miler and used to just fucking smash it at the front?
Persian Punch?
Poor bugger died after a race, but was a proper warrior.
